Balloon Festival Ferrara

The Balloon Festival Ferrara is a big event that takes place in Ferrara, a city situated in the middle of Italy, in the region of Emilia Romagna. It was born in 2005 and, for over 10 years, it caught the imagination of all guests of all ages.

Generally it hosts up to 40 equipment from all over Italy for a memorable show that is hard to forget.

A dream which is unfortunately missing

Unfortunately the last edition of the festival took place in 2019 and is not clear when the city will be ready for another wonderful event. First the Balloon Festival Ferrara was shot down by Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. This year the event did not take place due to some unspecified bureaucratic problems. We are not able to provide the exact dates of the next Festival and we can’t even safely say that it will actually take place.

It appears that the city administration has lost interest in this Festival, or maybe there are not enough resources to organize the event. In any case, whatever the circumstances, everyone is missing the Balloon Festival Ferrara and anyone who has enjoyed the event can’t wait to see the next edition.

Not just balloons at the Balloon Festival Ferrara

When the Balloon Festival Ferrara took place, it offered a wide and varied range of possibilities for all tastes. Both old and young used to have great times. It was not just a festival dedicated to hot air balloons but instead it was a popular celebration where everyone could spend unforgettable days.

Indeed there were a lot of different occasions to have fun. Some of these concerned flying and air, like the fantastic flight simulation of the Italian Air Force. The official institution used to provide a real simulator in which people could try the amazing thrill of piloting a military aircraft. But that’s not at all! Also firemen contributed to organize a very unique event. Near the fire truck indeed they used to install some artificial climbing walls for the more adventurous. There, everyone could prove themselves trying to reach the summit of the walls.

If that were not exciting enough, there were also other types of celebrations, concerning different arguments: there were also sporting events, concerts, meetings, exhibitions, food stands and catering zones. Little ones could have fun in areas dedicated to children, set up with bouncy castles, rides and games. In addition volunteers used to organize educational workshops and other kid-friendly activities.

How was the event?

Usually the Balloon Festival Ferrara takes place in the urban park “Giorgio Bassani”. It’s a green area that runs in the north of Ferrara, from the city walls to the Po river. A truly green lung equipped for leisure, sport and playtime. The park is very easy to reach, you can get there with your car or thanks to an efficient transport network. But the best way we recommend you it’s to use a bike or to have a great walk.

The Ferrara Balloons Festival used to leasts a week. From monday to friday it’s not necessary to pay any ticket while during the weekend the cost for the entrance is 5.00 € for the adults.

We all miss the Balloon Festival Ferrara!

All the inhabitants of Ferrara and the flying enthusiasts are upset by the decision to not organize the Balloon Festival Ferrara this year and we are all waiting for the next edition. This was a very important event for the city because citizens were happily involved and also because it attracted a lot of tourists.
